AZ31 includes Ca, Y
The flame retardance of the alloy increases with the addition of Ca and Y
In order to improve the strength and ductility of AZ91 magnesium alloy simultaneously, the effects of trace elements Ca and Y on the dynamic recrystallization and mechanical properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy during hot deformation were studied. The results show that the introduction of Ca and Y elements reduces the segregation of Al elements in AZ91 magnesium alloy, reduces the dynamic precipitation of Mg17Al12 phase, and thus inhibits the dynamic recrystallization during low temperature hot deformation. At the same time, the fine dispersed Al2Y phase promotes the dynamic recrystallization at high temperature. The addition of Ca and Y elements and the introduction of a large amount of dispersed Al2Y make the completely recrystallized microstructure finer and improve the mechanical properties. The room temperature compression elongation and strength of AZ91+Ca+Y magnesium alloy after hot pressing at 673 K reached 16.5% and 392.55 MPa respectively, which were 16.2% and 8.56% higher than AZ91 magnesium alloy respectively
